Chair 2022-2023: Lucy Mutharia
Co-Chair 2022-2023:
Our committee meets once a month and welcomes current and potential members, any time. Just contact the Committee Chair for details.

One might think that this committee is rather new to Rotary and yet it has deeper roots than some Rotarians might think. The Committee has evolved since 2011, just as our awareness of Canada’s Indigenous issues has also evolved. The pages in this section will describe how this committee began, the people responsible for its inauguration, development and growth, and some of the continuing work it is doing.
To give you a flavour about our committee, at the top of every agenda, and reminded at the beginning of every meeting, is the Land Acknowledgement and Our Committee’s Purpose:
Land Acknowledgement

“As we gather, we are reminded that Guelph is situated on treaty land that is steeped in rich indigenous history and has been home to a variety of peoples over the millennia. Today, this area has become home to many First Nations, Métis and Inuit people. As a Community, we have a responsibility for the stewardship of the land on which we live and work. Today, we acknowledge the historic Mississaugas of the Credit, the First Nation people who were the treaty signatories of the territory on which we are meeting.”
Our Committee’s Purpose
- LEARNING more about Canada's First Peoples, their history, culture and developments
- SHARING our own learning with others, to help Indigenous Awareness grow within our club and community
- SUPPORTING positive change wherever we can
