IN THIS BULLETIN...

Last Friday's program, February 23rd, was jam packed! We began the meeting with the club's 104th anniversary! Rosemary Clark organized the celebration with an informative slideshow, posters with the founding papers, a picture of the club in 1921, a decorated cake, and champagne! Thank you, Rosemary for putting this wonderful celebration together! For more info, please read the story below.

President Mohan chaired the meeting. It was great to see her back after missing several weeks due to health. Welcome back! President Mohan thanked the club for their support and began the meeting.

There were announcements about birthdays (Happy birthday Rick Le Feuvre and Paul Demarco!).

Aidan Harris made an announcement about the Rotaract Gala on March 8th. If you are interested in attending, please read the story below. It would be great to have a bunch of us attend!

Sean Yo was at the meeting! It was great to see him back after having to step back from the club to take care of his mom. Sean gave an update on the Coldest Night of the Year walk and his mom's health. It's great to hear that she's doing better!

Helmuth Slisarenko made and announcement about the Settler Discussion series. For more info about it, please read the story below. This will be a highly informative workshop!

After lunch, President Mohan introduced our speaker, the District Governor, Brenda Halloran. DG Halloran discussed her experience at the International Assembly, where she met 550 district governors from around the world and heard Rotary International President Gordon McInally's inspiring speech on the theme of creating hope in the world.

Brenda explained that her favourite part of being District Governor, is being able to learn more about Rotary International and its impact on a global scale.

Brenda emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and encourages Rotarians to ask people how they're really doing, rather than just saying "I'm fine."

Brenda shared the Rotary vision statement, emphasizing the organization's goal of creating lasting change globally and in local communities. This is demonstrated well by Rotary's efforts to eliminate Polio. In highlighting this feat, Brenda also emphasized the 50 health workers that have lost their lives in Pakistan and Afghanistan, most being women, to deliver vaccines to isolated communities.

Brenda also discussed the District Conference, on May 11th, and how it is focused on showing gratitude to families for sharing Rotarians with the organization. The event will include an opening ceremony with Rotary Youth Exchange students carrying flags from their countries of origin and destination, followed by a full day of speakers and activities focused on Rotary's seven areas of focus.

DG Halloran concluded her talk by highlighting the club's accomplishments and encouraging members to post Rotary-themed content on social media to celebrate Rotary Day and the club's 114th anniversary.

President Mohan thanked DG Halloran for her speech and visit.

March 2024 Settler Discussion Series
On Friday, Helmuth Slisarenko, made an announcement about an upcoming workshop series centered around colonialism and reconciliation. To learn more, or to register, please read the story below.
The 2024 Settler Discussion series was created in response to the momentum of Settler Canadians seeking a platform by which to begin their individual journey of reconciliation and engage in meaningful dialogue and the Truth and Reconciliation's 94 Calls to Action, specifically #54, and #s 62-65.

Each week an engaging, interactive digital email containing information of the next week's topic will be emailed to you. Additionally, a Zoom link to participate online according to the date and time you chose will also be emailed. This homework requires at least 1 hour of your attention to fully participate and learn from during your four week commitment.

This discussion series is open to non-Indigenous and Indigenous people across Canada. We will meet on Tuesday evenings starting March 5th, 2024 at 7pm EST.

Celebrating our 104th Anniversary!
On Friday, February 23rd, we celebrated the Club's 104th anniversary!
The Rotary Club of Guelph was founded in 1920 by Alexander Stewart. The image below shows the members of the Rotary Club of Guelph in 1921.

Over our 104 year history, the Rotary Club of Guelph has made a remarkable impact on the City of Guelph. Some of the most notable projects that our club has championed, include:
- The Children's Centre that became KidsAbility
- Teen Litter Cleanup Days
- Bheny Hearing Project on Baffin Island (Better hearing & education for Northern youth)
- Senior Medical Services
- 100 acre Rotary Forest near Guelph Lake
- Brant Avenue Pantry
- Youth Leadership Camp
- Small business loans
- Water and Hygiene Project in Uganda
- Water wells in India
- $500,000 for Guelph General Hospital (Dream Home Project)
- Economic Development in Cameroon
- Food4Kids in Guelph
- Toward Truth Film Series
- Support for International Shelter Box for housing when Disaster Strikes.

Rosemary Clark put together the festivities, on Friday. We had a wonderful cake (shown in the image above) and champagne. Rosemary gave a quick speech about the Club's history and when she went to lead the cheers, she realized she didn't have a drink with her. Sean Yo quickly provided her with a glass of gingerale, Rosemary said, 'I don't want this,' her glass was then replaced with champagne.

Happy 104th everyone!

Rotaract Gala 2024!
On March 8th, the University of Guelph's Rotaract Club will be hosting their annual gala!
The Rotaract club will be donating all of their proceeds to Big Brother & Big Sisters of Guelph.

The event is on March 8th at the Summerlee Science Complex, starting at 6:00 PM. There will be a dinner, games, and a silent auction.

Tickets cost $70 for non-students and $45 for students.

It would be great to have a good amount of Rotarians attend this event. Typically, our club, as the original sponsor of the University of Guelph's Rotaract Club, puts together a table every year.
