Once again this year, the Rotary Club of Guelph has presented achievement awards during the Commencements at our local secondary schools.
The Gary Tatum Rotary Achievement Award has been a long-standing and important award in the name of former Rotarian and active Community member, Gary Tatum. In his honour this award is presented at each high school to one student who has demonstrated success and service in the face of difficult challenges, as selected by each school’s awards committee. Rotarians are thrilled to continue this important tradition and wish the award winners much success in their future. The following is a list of schools, award winners and Rotary presenters.
In addition, a very special Career Development Award is presented each year at College Heights S.S. to honour former Rotarian Don Bower - his service to the Club, CHSS and the community. This year’s winner is Damanjot Heer, an exceptional candidate who is focused on her future. As the daughter of a single mom, Daman knows this scholarship will help with her college tuition as she aims to open her own bakery and travel the world.
The Rotary Club of Guelph has had a tradition and commitment to “Service Above Self”, the Rotary Motto, and has always had children and youth as a central focus in this community. Currently the Club provides support for such local charities as Food4Kids, The Grove Youth Wellness Hubs and the Guelph Career Education Council, in addition to the High School Awards.
