We are pleased to announce there will soon be a new forest in Guelph!!!
Starting in 2023, Guelph’s Earth Day weekend will focus on tree planting in the South End of Guelph. The chosen site is a 9.3 acre area off Clair Road.
This is a partnership between the City of Guelph, Trees For Guelph, and the Rotary Club of Guelph.
Citizens will be encouraged to participate in this fun family event that will include food vendors and entertainment. Approximately 6,000 trees will be planted over the next 3 years with a focus on naturalization using native species and pollinators. Trees such as native oaks, sugar maples, and shrubs like serviceberries are popular with pollinators and are well suited to restoring our natural heritage system. This new forest will help clean our air and water, and become a home for nesting birds and other animals. When the forest becomes mature, it will sequester approximately 6,000 tons of carbon every year.
Extra bonus: the sugar maples we plant together can also be tapped by future generations to enjoy!
