Remembrance Perspectives

This year marks the 150^th year of Lt. Col. John McCrae’s birth. Best known for writing In Flanders Fields, which elevated the poppy as an enduring symbol of Remembrance, Lt. Col. McCrae lived a remarkable life of service that has been well-documented and widely-shared. His presence is felt profoundly on Remembrance Day.

While McCrae’s story has been celebrated for decades, there are countless stories of service and sacrifice that have not been told. This Remembrance Day let’s make space for those whose names were excluded from cenotaphs; those who did not receive heroes welcomes upon their return home; and those who continue to carry the scars of war today. Lest we forget.
