ROTARACT GUELPH

Rotaract is the global movement of young leaders, founded in 1968 by Rotary International to encourage young people between the ages of 18 and up to actively participate in Rotary's motto of Service Above Self. Rotaractors exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun through service.

The Rotaract Club of Guelph has its home base on the University of Guelph campus. To encourage membership, Rotaract's annual club dues are under $10.

Today there are some 9,000 Rotaract Clubs in the world with ~120,000 Rotaractors in 189 countries!

All four Rotary Clubs of Guelph aim to support these young and future Rotarians in their various projects, including offers to sponsor a Rotaractor's attendance at RYLA (the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Academy). Clubs also invite Rotaractors to volunteer at events, and all Rotarians are encouraged to support the annual Rotaract Guelph Gala at their main fundraiser of the year.

A fun annual tradition at Rotaract Guelph is to paint the cannon to raise Polio Awareness and Rotary's role in helping to end Polio in the world.

Painting the Cannon, named “Old Jeremiah,” is one of U of G’s longest-standing Gryphon Traditions. The Cannon, located in Branion Plaza, can frequently be seen decorated with different messages from student groups promoting events and organizations, acknowledging significant dates and holidays, celebrating achievements, expressing school spirit, or just for fun!
