Deep in the Atlantic on the shores of Nova Scotia, lobsters are already waiting to find a trap in
preparation for the 43 rd year of Rotary Lobsterfest hosted by the Rotary Club of Guelph on
September 30, 2023. Live lobsters on ice will be flown in from the East Coast and boiled in
“perfect Rotary style” in the backyard at the Italian Canadian Club.
This fundraising event has been held continuously for 42 years with 2022 having to be cancelled
because of the remnants of COVID19 and the pandemic still lingering and our guests uncertain
that being in crowds was a good idea.
However, things are getting back to normal and nothing will stop the enthusiastic committee
from presenting Lobsterfest ’23 with the support of fellow Rotarians and most of all the
wonderful citizens of Guelph who look forward to a very special night out. Guests will enjoy
antipasto tables of seafood, salads, and cheese , plus a buffet with lobster, of course, spareribs,
baked potatoes, maple syrup beans, more salads and a lovely dessert.
Continuous throughout the evening guests have an opportunity to purchase tickets for a 50-50
draw and bid on some outstanding items in the live auction as well as the silent auction. One of
the most attractive items in the live auction is a 2-night stay at Guelph’s premier Airbnb, the
Carriage House at Lornewood Mansion which can accommodate a total of six people. It can be booked for a local staycation or passed along to a friend or family. The historical Lornewood Mansion is a part of The Raymond Sewing Machine Company Estate. It was originally the carriage house of the main home and has been beautifully restored with exposed stone walls and original art work from local artists.
Some other exciting items are a one-hour flight for two in a Cessna (with pilot) over Guelph and
surroundings; a rare book, ”Her Majesty,” hard cover, 367 pages, author Christopher Warwick, stunning rare photos of a young Queen; a collection of framed prints; a designed and hand-made cutting board consisting of 196 pieces of maple, cherry and walnut fitted together in a quilted pattern and took over 50 hours to complete; and a cuff slip-on bracelet with black enamel background and 10K gold plate palms on this slip-in piece of jewelry.
Tickets for the event at $125 and may be purchased online at: https//rotaryguelph.ca or by
