This club-favourite fellowship event is an adventure, and participants usually have a fabulous time getting to know more about other club members and building friendships. Partners are encouraged to attend, but singles are equally welcome. This year, this event will be on Saturday, April 29th at 6pm.
Here’s how it generally works, organized by the club's Fellowship Committee.
- Members volunteer to host a potluck dinner in their home on the designated evening, and state how many guests they can comfortably accommodate.
- Other club members sign up as wanting to attend a potluck. Usually, several potlucks happen simultaneously, accommodating everyone who wishes to attend.
- The organizers then establish the guest list for each potluck host.
- At each location:
- The host won’t know exactly who is coming, only how many people to expect.
- The guests obviously need to know whose home to go to, but they won’t know who else is attending, only how many people are expected in total at their potluck.
- The host provides the main entrée, the table setting and a welcoming environment.
- Ahead of time:
- The host tells the organizers what their main entrée will be, and what other items would round out the meal. For example: “We could use a salad, vegetables, bread, a starch like potatoes or rice, dessert, and drinks.” (Whatever the host thinks.)
- The organizers then help to coordinate what each guest will bring, so that the add-on items are covered.
- The organizers also identify dietary requirements and help to ensure there are suitable arrangements for all concerned.
- At the designated hour, the doorbell starts to ring at each host location, and the fun begins!
