Ontario Christian Gleaners - "A Food Bank To The World"

The Ontario Christian Gleaners is often described as A Food BankTo The World.  Operating out of Cambridge, Ontario, the Gleaners produce 6 to 7 million servings of dried vegetable mix as well as dried fruit snacks and other nutritious dried products each year using donated surplus produce to help feed those in need in developing countries around the world.

Join to hear from Elaine Merkus, Manager at The Gleaners, how they accomplish the following amazing food donations.

WHAT WE DO

The Gleaners provides relief and development organizations with vegetable mixes and fruit snacks that are nutritious, versatile and easily transported to areas of need in developing countries around the world.   These organizations have the necessary infrastructure for effective distribution and are committed to sustainability and development. Provided free – paid for by the love and participation of volunteers and the financial and in-kind gifts of faithful supporters.

HOW WE DO IT

Established in 2008, the ‘Gleaners’ is a registered charity that is both volunteer and donor driven.   Hundreds of volunteer hours are contributed each week to process 10,000+ kg of donated produce, assisted by the generous support of our financial donors. Weekday mornings, volunteers arrive ready to trim 1800 – 3200 kg of donated fresh produce.  The trimmed produced is diced in our dicing machine, dried and mixed and packaged into 30,000 servings of vegetable mix- that's up to 150,000 nutritious meals per week!
