Crossing Africa, by foot and kayak

Mario Rigby is an intrepid eco-explorer, currently based in Toronto … when he isn’t on a new adventure.

In 2018, Mario completed his Crossing Africa journey, a two-year, 12,000km trek walking and kayaking from Cape Town, South Africa to Cairo, Egypt. It was an expedition intended to connect with communities and share their stories with the world. Along the way, he was tested physically and emotionally in ways that would make most people stop short. But his main take-aways are his lessons in humanity and overcoming fear, lessons that are worth sharing.

If time permits, Mario might even tell us a little about his coast-to-coast adventure, Cycling Canada, from Victoria, BC to St. John’s Newfoundland, covering 7,300km in 89 days. Or perhaps share the planning for his next adventure: exploring climate change in British Columbia and the effects on the river systems and First Nations communities that reside there, with the support of The Explorers Club and the Discovery Channel.

Mario’s goal is to inspire people locally and globally to get out, be brave, and see the world.
