RUTH THATCHER TO BE HONOURED IN GUELPH
Tracey Curtis was delighted to share that our very own dear Ruth Thatcher will be honoured at the next Black Tie Bingo annual fundraiser of the Guelph General Hospital Foundation, receiving a lifetime achievement award. The event will be held on Saturday, March 28 and tickets are already sold out. Ruth truly is a “living legend” and you should read more about Ruth and her long service as a hospital volunteer here.
LONG SERVICE ANNIVERSARIES
While we typically highlight long service anniversaries of 20 years or more, our Club Secretary has noted that while Liz Sandals celebrates 7 years as a regular Club Member, she had previously been an Honourary Member for 14 years and 8 months, meaning that Liz now has been actively involved with our club for 21 years and 8 months! Thank you, Liz, for all you do!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Due to a family emergency for Eleni Bakopoulos, our planned program for March 6 that she was going to present about our club's “Peace & Reconciliation Committee” had to be postponed. Instead, club members took the opportunity to recognize and celebration International Women's Day coming up on March 8th and the value of women's contributions to Rotary. Our thoughts and good wishes are with Eleni and her family!
Warm thanks and congratulations were extended to Crista Renner and Marva Bailey-Wisdom for their fantastic webinar hosted by our District 7080 on Wednesday evening, March 4, on “Act Locally, Build Globally - A Rotary Pathway to Peace”.
Bonnie Evans made two announcements about the annual Waterloo Wellington Science & Engineering Fair that our club has supported for over 40 years to encourage new groups of high school students each year to consider a future career in STEM. (Read here about our club's long history with the Science Fair.) The next fair is on Tuesday April 7, 2026 at Bingamans in Kitchener, and members are welcome to visit in the morning to see what the Science Fair is like. It's really impressive!
A few more volunteers are needed to be bus monitors in the afternoon of April 7th, accompanying senior students on a visit to Laurier University. Email Bonnie if you can help.
Please note that award winners from this year's Science Fair will be invited to attend our club meeting on Friday, May 8th, to share their projects with us. Not to be missed!
Crista Renner, our president-elect, strongly encourages members to sign up at MyRotary.org and be inspired by the amazing information there. Furthermore, after attending a recent President-Elect training session run by our District, Crista brought back valuable information about PR materials that clubs can borrow for free from the District. The item list below is now stored on on our club website under Documents in the Member Area.
