IN THIS BULLETIN...
Last Friday, March 8, our meeting began with an announcement from President Nanita Mohan about International Women's Day. Nanita and all the women Rotarians of our club took a picture at the front of our venue. Thank you for all the amazing work you all do!
Marva made an announcement about her grand-daughter, Cassia, and to recognize Terrie on her nomination for the Woman of Distinction award. No one deserves it more than you, Terrie!
Bob Ireland was recognized for his reception of the Inspirational Philanthropist Award. Bob Ireland has been a leader in Rotary for over 43 years. Bob has been especially involved in philanthropy with Guelph General Hospital. To read more about his accomplishments, please read the story below.
Janette Hogan shared that her first grandchild, Elizabeth was born last Friday. Congratulations, Janette!
Peter McSherry discussed his family vacation and how it was delayed due to a damaged door railing. For some reason there were no replacements available in Ontario, but he was able to spend some time with his family and nephew in Montreal.
After lunch, Tracey Curtis introduced our speaker and fellow Rotarian, Chelsey Mathieu, for her Up Close and Personal talk.
Chelsey grew up in Guelph in a close-knit and supportive family. She has a younger sister who she became close with after high school (Chelsey emphasized the six-year age gap between them and how that was hard when they were younger).
Chelsey spent her formative years developing lifelong friendships through sports (especially basketball), university (at Windsor), and community involvement.
After receiving her degree in Kinesiology at the University of Windsor, Chelsey began her career at the University of Guelph. She then worked at a gold course until the pandemic started. She lost passion in her job when it moved online.
Her fiancé, Ryan, who she's known since she was in Kindergarten (they were close friends throughout elementary and high school, but didn't start dating until grade 12), introduced her to his boss, Paul DeMarco. DeMarco hired her into Intrigue Media initially as an assistant. After a little while, Paul asked Chelsey if she'd be interested in the role of Recruitment and Culture Specialist. In this role, Chelsey finds great people to work for a great team while creating a positive work environment.
Chelsey discovered her passion for connecting with people through her work at Intrigue.
Since joining Rotary, Chelsey has been involved in the Children and Youth Committee, and has hosted Swedish Rotarians that were visiting Canada.
Brian thanked Chelsey for her presentation, and expressed once again how much Rotarians love the Up Close and Personal Talks.
President Mohan concluded the meeting.
