Bev showed us her entry number #2529 to prove that she completed the Mudmoiselle challenge and was the highest fundraiser of the day. Her prize? A 6-week fitness bootcamp! She also told us about the lovely pie that was served at the Paul Harris dinner which she and Hal Jackson attended. Then the hammer hit the nail on the head. We were all challenged to repeat the Rotary 4 Way test. Those who failed to repeat it correctly were fined and the rush to pay was pretty darned big.
Rotary Local Lager Gift Pack Order Form – Rotary Club of Guelph
Last year members of the Rotary Club of Guelph and Peterborough bought into the idea of giving gift packs (2 Glasses, 4 beers in a 6-pack carton along with a Christmas message insert) to friends, family, and or deserving clients, customers, suppliers, and sponsors. But best of all was providing a dinner host with a Rotary Local Lager gift pack turned out to be great idea. It is a novel gift and created a fantastic opportunity to talk about the project, the great work your club is doing in the community and Rotary around the world. What’s more your club gets to raise some funds and create some long term RLL enthusiasts. The gift packs $25 each including taxes for pick up at the club at a regular club meeting cash, cheque or credit card on pick up.

Today’s Speaker
District Governor John Gilvesy
John first confessed that he is not a Doctor of anything as stated in our announcement. That’s not his title. Then he shared a story. A man shows up at a doctor’s clinic and tells the receptionist that he has shingles. She takes his information and has him take a seat. Thirty-five minutes later he gets called and the nurse takes him to an examining room and asks a few question about why he was there. He replied that he had shingles. She instructs him to undress and wait for th doctor to examine him. After a while, the doctor comes in and asks again why he is there. He says he has shingles. The Doctor looked and asked him where? He responded … on my truck …. Where would you like them?
Perhaps it is true? Regardless, we can learn a lot from that story.
First – be careful to not assume. We cannot assume we have all the answers. Communication is important.
Second – Presumably we don’t have shingles, or any other disease. We are the lucky ones
Third – We have something to deliver. There is a saying; from those who have more, more is expected! I believe we do have more. Mother Theresa said, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples”.
In Rotary, we are not alone. We can and do cast 1.2 million stones with our 1.2 million members in 35,000 clubs. Imagine the waves we can make.
Thank you for being here, for being part of Rotary and part of this club. As we collectively work to make a difference, I honestly believe that you would not be here if you did not want to make a difference because we are so lucky.
RI President Barry Rassin unveiled RI’s Vision for this year – Together, we see a world where people unite and act to create lasting change across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves.
There are three priorities:
Strengthen clubs, enhance our Public Image and Increase Humanitarian Service
Strengthen Clubs – by having 2 members (at least one female) indicate their classification in My Rotary so that we can use our vocations to further our Rotary connections.
Enhance our Public Image – Together we campaign, hold alumni events and sell the value of networking.
Increase Humanitarian Service – Each year we contribute $100 per person to the Annual Fund, which allows one more project somewhere in the world.
I challenge each club to grow by 5 new members this year, promote events 4 times per month and attend professional development programs.
Gandhi said “Lead by Example to be the change”. Ultimately, we will be known by the results we achieve.
We live in a world where poverty, corruption and tragedy occur and every day we see suffering, rebellion and hostility. Without an equal and opposite force, I believe the current refugee migration witnessed everywhere is only the tip of the iceberg.
I am convinced that we, as with the Polio Eradication program, having our networks, resources and 999communities. And perhaps have fun and form great relationships along the way. If we are not having fun, we are not doing it right.
So …. be the Inspiration to create lasting change! We have the tools in social media, etc. to do it effectively with excitement, energy, enthusiasm, engagement and entertainment. You are the leaders: be passionate and creative as we unite members of our clubs and communities. Have a fantastic, inspirational year!
Definition of Success
Three people were asked to define success and how they would know if they were successful
1st person: If I could meet the President in his office
2nd person: If I could meet the President in his office and when a phone call came in, he would ignore t.
3rd person: When meeting with the President and a phone call came in, the President would take it and tell me that it was for me.
Aldo Vilanovich thanked the District Governor for his inspiration on behalf of the club and gave best wishes for enjoying our Lobsterfest tomorrow evening and a truly great year ahead in the District.
