Messages this week from our Club President, Tracey Curtis

          Toronto Symphony Orchestra

Please note there is no club meeting next week, July 2, 2021.

There was no time today for Club Announcements, so please catch up below.

Hello Rotarians. It's hard to believe that my Rotary year as club president 2020-2021 is coming to an end. In today's meeting, I reflected on the past year with pride in Rotary and this club. It may have been mostly on Zoom, but WE DID IT and we did it TOGETHER!

Next week, at the start of July, our NEW club president, Mahmud Hassain, takes office. His inaugural meeting will be on Friday, July 9. Don't miss it!

Read Mahmud's President's message on our home page at RotaryGuelph.ca.

In today's meeting, here is Mahmud showing the traditional handoff and receipt of our club's presidential medallion. Learn the backstory about this medallion herehttps://rotaryguelph.ca/Stories/handing-over-the-club-president-medallion

O CANADA
Special thanks to Rick Le Feuvre. He not only supports us with Zoom technology every week but also carefully selects a different recording of O Canada to fit the occasion and entertain us. This week's version is a favourite performed by the Canadian group 'Walk Off The Earth'.

We hope you saw the double page ad this week in the Guelph Mercury Tribune (if not, take a look here).

DARLENE CARPENTER, ASSISTANT DISTRICT GOVERNOR, RECOGNIZED AND THANKED TRACEY

Darlene complimented the Rotary Club of Guelph for its achievements this past year, in spite of all the Covid restrictions, and she warmly thanked Tracey for her personal leadership and involvement with the seven clubs in our geographic cluster. In fact, as Darlene retires from her ADG role after four years, she is delighted to be handing over the reins to Tracey as the next ADG for the Guelph-Wellington Cluster of seven local Rotary Clubs! Here is info about our GW Cluster within District 7080https://rotary7080.org/page/rotary-in-guelph-wellington-club-info/

  • The Grand Prize is $500 per month for a year of food from Zehrs (worth $6,000!) and will be drawn at 2pm on July 1st
  • Net proceeds from the Duck Race will go to Food4Kids Guelph to help feed local children living in severely food-insecure families.

GET YOUR ORANGE SHIRT
The Indigenous Awareness Committee is taking orders for Orange Shirts to be delivered in time for our Club’s Orange Shirt Day Meeting in September. We will be working with Woodland Cultural  Centre (as long as supplies last) to purchase the shirts and, this year, hoodies as well.  T-shirts are $20 and Hoodies $40.  Please send orders to joannemcauley43@gmail.com.  You may also purchase your own Orange Shirts online yourself on many websites - just  be sure the proceeds support an Indigenous business or organization.

Looking back on our Rotary year 2020-2021

by Tracey Curtis,
Rotary Club of Guelph President, 2020-2021

YOU CAN WATCH THE RECORDING OF THIS MEETING HERE.

Summarizing a year of Rotary is always a challenge, but President Tracey didn't skip a beat in remembering all our activities and thanking members for their support throughout the 2020-2021 Rotary year.

And what a year it was! In spite of the challenges presented by the pandemic, our club had an extraordinarily successful year with wonderful weekly programs, amazing fundraisers, new members joining, members caring for each other, and Rotarians pulling together within our club, Cluster, District and around the world.

It was a year that required CHANGE on many fronts, and Rotarians stepped up.

With too many points and accolades to cover in this bulletin, please watch the recording of the meeting here.

Thank you, President Tracey, for being the right person at the right time for our club, and for giving so much of yourself for the benefit of others. WE APPRECIATE YOU!
