IN THIS BULLETIN...
Last Friday, December 13th, was our Christmas luncheon! We had a great showing of Rotarians, guests, past Rotarians, and the wives of past Rotarians.
Helmuth Slisarenko greeted guests at the entrance and had lovely Christmas bags with his Costa Rican Coffee and chocolates. Helmuth sold out of both. This means he raised $250, which he will match for a total of $500 for Kids Ability. Amazing work, Helmuth!
Jules Croskill and Janette Hogan ran the punch station, which had the choice between spiked punch and regular punch (one seemed to be emptying faster than the other).
The room was well-decorated with seven tables in the centre, and the podium and stage set against the left wall.
As guests arrived they mingled and had lively conversations. There was a pleasant holiday buzz in the air.
Close to 12:15 PM, President Martin called the meeting to order. We sang the National Anthem, and held a toast to Rotary.
President Martin then announced, as part of our revitalization of the International Committee, our club would be providing $3,000 to fund a Pediatric hospital in Guatemala. This is the project of Aldo Villanovich (former member) and his wife Barbara. Both are currently members of the Burlington North Rotary club. Aldo and Barbara both spoke about the project in Guatemala.
Helmuth then introduce our many guests. The first being Aldo Villanovich and his wife Barbara. Then Carl Jones, Eric Holmes (husband of Barb Holmes), Diana Martin (wife of President Brian Martin), Ron Rammage (husband of Crista Renner), David Sandals (husband of Liz Sandals), Dana Slisarenko (wife of Helmuth Slisarenko), Petr Vales (husband of Noma Vales), Melissa Webster (wife of Matt Webster), Jean Funnel.
Mike Schreiner attended as an Honorary Member. Faz Ashkar had three guests: Murray Taylor (former club member), Steno Carniello, and John Farley. Marva Wisdom brought her granddaughter Cassi.
Also there were Mahmud Hussein (Past President Rotary Club of Guelph, Current Ass. District Gov), Rita Marinetti and Francesco Braga (both soon to inducted as members).
Our special guests were Mary Taylor, widow of our former member Bill Taylor, and Jeanne Forsyth, widow of our former member Bill Forsythe, as well as Ida Longo (former server at Rotary Meetings), and Vicki Tedesco (Ida’s daughter and caregiver)
It was so wonderful to have so many people out!
After Helmuth's introduction of our guests, lunch was served. The ICC prepared a three course meal of salad, Turkey dinner, and a lovely apple pie.
Near the end of lunch, Marva Wisdom led the club in the singing of three Christmas carols.
Shortly after, the meeting came to a close.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone!
